I never post personal stories on this website. In that fine tradition, I present you with a personal story:
So, I was in my Western Civilization class. To my right sits a black guy. Hes kinda fat, but he isn't one of those hilarious and misunderstood wacky black guys. He is serious, studious, and overall, a beautiful human being. We never really talk, but we are aware of each other's presence.
Today, the professor was discussing the Bourgeoisie periods of history. He was talking about how most of us, being in college, are in the Proletariat class. He went on to discuss the class struggle. How the Proletariats always fight to reach to Bourgeoisie class, and how the Bourgeoisie fight to make sure we stay lowly, disgusting Proletariats.
The professor says, "so, you are in college, trying to improve your class status, and what is the Bourgeoisie trying to do?"
I pause. I look to my right, at the black kid.
He pauses. He looks at me. He says, in a very cliche black guy voice, "trying to hold us down."
I smile. I begin to laugh.
He begins to laugh. We laugh very loudly for 15 seconds or so, completely disrupting the entire class.
In conclusion... Obama has been president for one day. And, already, I have had a white guy/black guy bonding moment with underlying tones of understanding and the human struggle for success, regardless of racial barriers.
This would clearly not be possible if we had elected whitey.
We fight the good fight. Amen, dawg.
